The Avantgarde Award ceremony has taken place


The winner took “Avantgarde Award”- a statuette in the form of 3D crystal "A"-letter, a work of authorship created by Akopov Design Bureau and $ 10 000 certificate. The winner has
also acquired the right to create «Debut of the year», a personal exposition at the Second Moscow Architecture Biennale, in May-June 2010 in the Central House of Artist.

Guests of honour spoke with congratulations and welcoming speech. They are: Andrey Bokov, architect, President of the Union of Architects of Russia (UAR); Dmitry Shvidkovsky, Rector of Moscow Architectural Institute (MARCHI); Mikhail Vilkovskiy, Director of the Russian Avantgarde Foundation; Oscar Mamleev, Head of Department of MARCHI; Evgeny Asse, architect, Professor of MARCHI, Head of Experimental Design Studio; Andrei Gozak, Doctor of Architecture, famous researcher of XX century architecture.


Ceremony completed more than semi-annual contest created by Bart Goldhoorn, publisher and chief-editor of Project Russia journal and supported by Russian Avantgarde Foundation and Sergey Gordeyev, personally, the Foundation’s Founder and President . This competition is to encourage creative evolution and professional searches of young architects for the activization of development of contemporary Russian architecture.

The Prize Fund of the contest was $30 000. Any young Russian architect up to 33 years old could take part in this creative competition. Specially developed three-stage system of the contest became a guarantee of impartiality. It gave to contestants an opportunity to express their artistic taste; a way to think conceptually and creatively; and to show their professional responsibility for fulfillment of social significant problems.

350 applications approximately in all were sent for the contest. In the first round 24 contestants have been chosen, their projects were included into the “New Names” Exposition which was of key sense of «АRCH Moscow 2009». During the 3 days work of exhibition the contestants made blitz-projects on the theme of Parking building with public functions. The International Jury chose 4 best projects. Their authors - Alezander Berzing (Saint-Petersburg), Fedor Dubinnikov, Nataliya Zaichenko, and Nataliya Sukhova (Moscow) – became the finalists of the contest and took $ 5 000 certificates.


In the summer of 2009 for the third round of competition, each of finalists prepared the special project on «Residential district» theme. In September, all the works were presented at the International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam 2009 (IABR) and held their presentation in front of authoritative international jury. After that the jury chose a winner. The document with a name of the winner had been sealed in an envelope which was opened on solemn ceremony on October, 27th, 2009.
